Sorry. I love my Audi and its a great car, but I don't think it could trump a well sorted M3. Its a great alternative and they're fantastic in the snow, but it doesn't have that BMW feel. The 1.8 while fantastic, is no where near as smooth as the I6. It doesn't sound that great either, except at full boost. If I were to move out of the snow belt, I would most likely go to a 3 as a daily driver.
I understand your pain. I bought my house 2 years ago and I kept my 5, but I sold my Corrado SLC. The A6 that i got to replace it just didn't feel right. I still miss that Corrado. It was so mean and raw and sounded phenomal. The A6 didn't last long.
