Does anyone know of any S4's for sale anywhere? I might be looking into getting rid of the M3 for a B5 S4. Would Love a Negaro blue, but up for anything. Looking for a great deal on a great car.
Thanks. |

As with anything, take your time and find a perfect car. B5 S4s can become headaches if not maintained painstakingly...and even then they are often headaches. Good luck on your search.

Defacto is right. My friend purchased a seemingly mint 2001.5 B5 S4 with 25k miles a few years back for 30k. Within the first two months, the car had 22k dollars in repairs - thankfully all covered under a CPO warranty. New turbos, transmission, seat & window motors; you name it.
Good luck with your search. If you find vehicles located in or around the DC area I would be glad to help look at them for you. |

So its true that Audi's are always in the shop and take on the persona of a Jaguar?
I've been looking into a B6 S4/ A4 Quattro model.

I would check out the classifieds on Audiworld forums. That's where you're most likely to find a well maintained ride. That's where I found my ride. But everyone is correct when they say that they have issues and they're very expensive to repair. The 2.7t is an engine with issues. I would recommend checking out the S4 B5 forum to get an idea of the issues. I had considered getting an Allroad 6mt 2.7T until I saw all the issues people had with those cars. It seems that the problem was mostly the 2000-2003/4 (depending on the model) because since then Audi's reliability ratings have gone up. Autoweek said they're longterm A3 2.0T was the top 5 most reliable vehicle ever.
Nogaro Blue is an awesome but rather rare color. Santorini Blue is also very nice and you might have a better chance locating on of those. Chances are you'll get a silver one, since 4 out of 5 Audis came in silver. You can probably get a better deal on a K04 or Stage 3 A4, than you can on an S4. Same power, but less refinement. I got mine for about $10k and the best I could find an S4 at the time was just under $20k. Of course any car that has been modded could have issues. I finally fixed my long running misfire issue. Now I just have to get new E-code lights so they can be aimed properly, fix the bumper, and replace the cruise control stalk. If you want a really good deal, there is a 1998 A4 1.8TMQ with a blown turbo that's in watertown mass for $3500obo. A K04 upgrade is less than $2k. Its listed on the Audiworld website. |

I'll have to check that out! Thanks.
I've had an Audi before my M3. I had the 12 valve 1996 2.8Q A4. The biggest problems with those were the control arms...every 30k you would need to replace them. Other than that, I lucked out and that was the only problem I had. I hate Audiworld. The guys on there are all about beating people up about threads....that is why I joined the DTM crowd back in the day with my A4, much better people.....BUT I'll give them another shot. Thanks again guys. |
